Mizahar, the Writer's RPG
Review type: Ideally Amber Quill, though I'd be perfectly happy with just being listed on the site.
Category: Internet Play : Play by Post : Mythic Fantasy (unless there's a better one?)
Editor: Remmy
Mizahar is a non-Tolkienesque fantasy RPG, set in a world rising from the ashes of a world burned. Five hundred years ago, the age-old war between two great empires came to a dramatic end when the Queen of Alahea accepted to marry the warlord of Suvan to save her defeated people from destruction. However, discovered not to be "pure" on their wedding night, she was brutally stoned to death on the next day. Little did the world know that her lover was the fire god Ivak, and his fury knew no bounds. Casting the intricacies of divine politics to the winds, he almost destroyed the world before a coalition of other gods managed to stop him.
Most civilization was wiped out in an instant. The few survivors gathered inside magical shelters or simply found safety in the bowels of the earth. There, they somehow lived on for the next few centuries while the outside world was ravaged by terrible storms. Then, little by little, they emerged to claim back what they thought was theirs.
Mizahar takes place after the initial resettling phase, when a few cities have already risen to prominence, though the vast majority of the world remains an unknown. The new world is filled with dangers, and old threats have survived, seeking to seize the second chance they have been given.
It is a freeform RPG in that it is diceless, though we keep track of skill proficiencies with a moderator-controlled percentile system (completing threads will award you experience points and make you better at the skills you used). Characters start with a set amount of experience points, so they cannot be as powerful as they want - all forms of god-modding are forbidden.
Mizahar is Elf-less, Dwarf-less and Orc-less, though there are about 20 unique races to choose from. We strive for originality, so you can play a little man of clay, a super-intelligent ape or a soul fallen from nirvana. Mizahar features a three-way magic system in which power can come from your soul, a god or the world around you. Disciplines can mixed and matched, and each carries very real risks to your life and sanity.
A lot of thought went (and still goes) into this site, and we think we have quite a bit of background considering we are not even two months old. We are really committed to making it the best we can, so I am looking for as much constructive criticism as you guys can spare.
I know there are still many areas that could use some improvement, so feel free to point them out. Thanks for your time!
Review
Greetings. Just visited your site and it's visually quite appealing. I have a few comments to make and please know that while I am a Senior Editor, I am just one person and these are for you to take or leave as you see fit. I hope my comments are helpful to you.
There are a lot of links (a LOT) which might be overwhelming to newbies, but I understand the need to convey a lot of information. Just for simplicity's sake, I'd consider putting ALL the resource links in one category so it's cleaner on your main page.
I have to say yours is the best "Getting Started" guide I've ever seen. I hope your new players appreciate the thought and thoroughness.
The Blog: I'm confused. None of this seems to be about the game. If that's your intent, perhaps you want to remove it from the site.
You've got a ton of content and the posts I perused were well written and compelling. Bravo. I also liked your Gallery.
You've got my vote for the Amber Quill. Congrats.

Wow
I can't believe that I missed one of these to review. I must have gotten the one right before it and not noticed that I forgot this one.
Actually, I really liked the website. From a content standpoint the site is really well done, organized efficiently, and isn't difficult to navigate through.
I actually have to agree with Soraya here. Everything is really well put together. Most of her points about room to improve are similar points I would have made though I honestly have to disagree about the amount of links. While there is quite a few I think they are laid out well enough that it makes it easier for a new player to find the information they are most interested in.
Some people use City Information to build characters, some religion, some local monsters, and some people like to try and get their characters involved in as much of the back-story as they possibly can. The only improvement that could be made here is a side displaying menu that categorizes things a little better such as:
IC Content into one area
Character Creation Content into another
Etc etc. Still, I don't think it is that bad to be honest.
Anyway, that's all I got! I'm not an official editor, I just wanted to give my opinion on the site. Looks great!

Thanks, Dalliance
Dalliance, you'll notice my comment about the numerous links *was* only a suggestion. It's been a long time since I was a complete newbie so I'm not sure what amount of links would seem overwhelming or not. The links didn't bother me, particularly since they were quite pertinent to game play and understanding the world.
One of the best sites I've seen in a while.

Ohh,
I know. I just wanted to give my feedback as well. I'm sure if I had reviewed it first, there might be a few points I would make that you would disagree on. hehe. I certainly agree with you though about the site. RPG Gateway hosts a number of really well put together websites, and this is yet another one that I think will make a great addition to the Die Rollers top 100. I voted for it today infact. Well, until I am ready to submit my site. (Ever ongoing it seems)
Take Care,

Vote Early, Vote Often
Hey, nothing will stop you from voting for more than one site. You just can't vote for one site more than once. I voted for this one too.

This is a bump of a long-dead post, and if I am over-stepping my bounds, I apologize. This is an amazing RP site, and I can't tell if a decision was ever reached on if it should deserve the award or not? Not to press you guys, I know you are quite busy. I just wanted to push a little attention to it, as I feel it deserves it. I apologize if I am being rude, I checked the rules, made sure I wasn't being inappropriate. <3333
Not Rude at All
No worries about bumping this post. It takes three editors to vote for a site before an award is given. Unfortunately we seem to be a bit short of editors lately. You might try emailing some of them. Here's the link to the list: http://www.rpggateway.com/Editors/
Good luck!
