I... think that's everything you want here, though if there's something else that'll help you find what you're looking for, please don't be afraid to ask!
Right, so here's the situation. We here at Unicorn's Visions have recently updated our site to php3, and a ready and rearing to begin growing our site once again!
We're a big, old, freeform fantasy RPG (been around for 7 years now!) and have a small but dedicated core group of posters and plotters. At the moment, we're between plots, and just underwent a two year time jump, so it's now the ideal time for new players to join up and join in... which is partially why I'm here for the review. We'd like to get some takes on how to make this site best appeal to new players, so we can double our current active player base, if not increase it by even more! The bigger, the better... well, not always true, but we'd definitely like bigger at the moment!
The main feature of our site is, of course, the forums, though we do also host chat, blogs, galleries, et al. Unfortunately, with the small group we have now, the blogs and galleries are pretty much inactive, though in chat we regularly get 4-6 people in there a night, which is fantastic! Just, like I said, I'd be happier with 10-15 people a night
So, then, onto the forums. Like I said, freeform fantasy RPG... and when I say freeform, I really do mean freeform. There are very few restrictions on what you cannot play... aside from a hard-fast no humans rule (yes, I know, we're racist. Bite me), and limitations on superpowered beasties (had a few problems with godmoders in the past), anything goes. At the moment, we've got characters such as elder dragons, a Resident Evil-inspired zombie, a succubus warlord, a human-turned-donkey (yay fairy magic), a godslayer with her powers sealed away, a catfolk pirate, the ai of a crashed human spacecraft, and, of course, a number of unicorns/unipegs/winged unicorns/ other equine beasties. Like I said, any idea goes!
In terms of rping, it's pretty much all self-driven. On occasion there's a few board-wide plots, but mostly, it's up to the players to create their own. We've got a nice little forum set up for that, in addition to our 9 in forest forums for playing out these plots. In addition, we've got 2 forums for roleplaying outside the forest, one with your uv characters, and one in other settings entirely (some of us are running a D&D game in there... because we can)
Joining is relatively easy... fill out a profile, then RP in a thread until you've made 10 posts (so, on average, 20 posts a thread). After that, the mods should accept your character, and you're free to go, though I will admit some of the best RPs at the forest stem from joining threads. Epic ones indeed. You can have up to three characters when you first join, and this can be increased to 5 by proving you're capable of keeping up the post load, which is really not all that hard to do.
Anyhow, hope this helps, and I'm looking forward to seeing what you have to say about UV!
